1. Sad Song- Dance with my Father by Luther Vandross http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLuP-4ZEhOE During our movie we will of course have to include Rustam realizing he had just murdered his own child. So sad and slow music would be a great fit for this emotional moment. That’s why we chose Dance with my Father. This song is not only slow and emotionally touching, it also has a hidden relevance to The Sha nama. Fighting is sometimes referred to as a dance of sorts, and in the Sha nama Suhrab is in this sense “dancing” with his father. This song will make this moment in the movie memorable and emotional.
2. Traveling Music- Wonderful Chill Out Music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMK86SdYBpE During the Sha nama Suhrab sets out in search of his father. In our movie portrayl of this epic adventure we will show Suhrab crossing increasingly different terrains and areas traveling to where he hopes to find his father. This music is also particularly fitting as the music slowly increases in speed. This will represent Suhrab getting increasingly closer to his goal and his father. This mix of music is what we believe would go well with the travel section of the movie.
3. Battle Mucis- Epic Legend by Auracle music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw4O9pN-a1g A large portion of the Shah nama that we read in class was the 2 day battle Rustam and his son waged. This is not only a very important part, but also a very intense one. So to match this intense moment we chose intense music! This song combines both suspense and intensity for listening pleasure. It will add infinite amounts to the movie scene and make it all the better. Another reason this song was more appropriate than others was because it got to the more upbeat parts faster where as many other songs took 3 to 4 minutes to get past a soft lull.
4. Leaving Home Music- Please Don’t Go by KWS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w1TzLR2tYc At the beginning of the story we read in class, Suhrab leaves home to go search for his father. His mother is grief stricken knowing her son may not return. This is when she gives him a gift to prove that he is the son of Rustam. This song represents that moment and will go perfectly with the movie because the song talks of leaving and the other person not wanting them to go. This is the same thing that happened in the story. Since this song is so fitting we could not find anything that made the moment so perfect.
5. Meeting his father- Don’t Worry be Happy by Bob Marley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo4OnQpwjkc We chose this song for the portion of the movie when son and father meet. Suhrab is not sure if it is his father or not but at the same time is happy that he probably found his father. That is one reason this song is so fitting for the moment. He needs to not worry and just be happy that he found what he was looking for finally. At the same time though the song isn’t really upbeat, which is also fitting since it’s a moment of happiness and sadness when he realizes he is going to fight him, or rather starts the fight.
